EARTH DAY SERIES PART 3: RECYCLING YOUR CLOTHES

1. CLOTHING SWAP

Since starting the boutique I’ve done this several times with my cousins and friends to make sure my clothes don’t go to waste. purge your closet of clothes you haven’t worn in a while and have your friends pick out clothes they want. This guarantees your clothes go to a new home and someone who will wear them. This is better than resale shops because your clothes aren’t guaranteed to be bought and after a certain time can be thrown away by the shop. It’s also a great way for you to update your wardrobe for free. who doesn’t like free?

2. FOR DAYS

This brand specializes in recycling clothing textile waste. If you have clothe that are worn and broken that maybe other people wouldn’t want then contact for days. They send you a recycle bag and shipping label. you put your clothes in a bag and mail it off to be recycled and turned into new clothes. Funds frOm their sales go to fighting plastic waste and supporting lgbtq+ communities.

3. TAKE TO TIKTOK

as crazy as it sounds this is a great recycling resource. if you have clothes you think you can upcycle but aren’t sure how then take to tiktok. Searching “clothing upcycle” or “recycle clothing” will generate tons of ideas on how to give your old clothes new life. This helps you hold onto clothes longer and saves them from a landfill.
